Demonic Manipulations

I am eternally astounded that people are willing and able to look at this world through 11th century eyes.  That they can view this entire reality as a battleground between unseen spiritual entities.  That they believe they must choose sides in this war between spirits.  Most horrifically, that they are able to discount and impugn other people’s very nature and humanity by declaring them mere “puppets” for a spiritual entity they can show no evidence of.  Such rigid thinking creates an “us vs them” mentality, where the “other”, that person not subscribing to their belief, is automatically an agent of “the adversary”.  I cannot fathom how they can hold to this ideal and “Love thy neighbor as thyself”, for these others are, of course, their neighbors.

Yet I encounter this very mindset and worldview often, if not daily.  Just yesterday I got a response to my blog which claims;  “But for us, all that’s not of Christ is demonic, so we see Heretics, Catholics, Secularist, and Muslims all killing each other, as much as druggies overdosing and thugs shooting each other ((As Demonic))” and “And you obviously don’t understand what demonic means, half of what Christians do is. If you want a “demonic” free zone you have to just kill everyone. It’s not an us/them dichotomy. It’s an us as we are versus what we can be dichotomy. . .”  ((a world so infested with Demons that to remove them is to commit Global genocide))
Apparently the author is unable to see his own prejudice, and in fact thinks that believing all Secular people, all Catholics, all Muslims and all heretics’ mere puppets of demonic influence.  You are literally either actively serving Christ or you are a sock puppet of demonic forces.  How much more us and them can you be?

Yet this is seen by the author as;  people who are “Christians”,  are “us as we can be”; and people who are not are , “us as we are”; hence a sock puppet for Lucifer.  The author has no issue lumping large groups of humans into the “sock puppet” category based solely upon his or her estimation of that person’s faith.   Should it not meet their idea of “Christian” then they are sock puppets for Lucifer and anything they say is a lie.  This is a coward’s way of calling other liars.  A means of saying “you are lying, but it’s not your fault, Lucifer is telling you to lie.”  It shows no respect for another thought process at all.  To disagree is to at least admit I am talking, to claim I am a sock puppet is to dehumanize me into irrelevance.

This makes it very easy for the person believing in this way to simply discount anything they do not already believe or which flies in the face of their held beliefs.  It makes is easy not to think about your own belief by stigmatizing the entire world around you. However they seem unable or unwilling to see this is bigotry driven by dogma or how it removes the power of “love thy neighbor”,  What “good Christian” would love the devils puppet?  The demeaning nature of such beliefs is apparently invisible to such believers.  To such a mind these are not my thoughts writ and shared with others, they are deceptions from Lucifer, and I have no worth at all, I am just a pawn.

This all stems from the medieval concept of Lucifer, upon whom every vile thing is blamed.  This is taken from a select few Bible verses.  Isaiah 14 is among them, in this book the Prophet Isaiah is admonishing Nebuchadnezzar and threatening him with God’s wrath.  This is one of those sections of Hebrew scripture which Christians interpret in their own way.  It is a misinterpretation of the Judaic Faith complete with the language addition of the term Lucifer.  That particular term does not exist in the Hebrew text, compare and contrast this passage.
KJV–Isaiah 14: 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
And the Hebrew version
Isaiah 14: 12  How have you fallen from heaven, the morning star? You have been cut down to earth, You who cast lots on nations.                    יבאֵיךְ נָפַלְתָּ מִשָּׁמַיִם הֵילֵל בֶּן שָּׁחַר נִגְדַּעְתָּ לָאָרֶץ חוֹלֵשׁ עַל גּוֹיִם:
Here is the Judaic understanding of these passages.

“The morning star: This is Venus, which gives light as the morning star, הֵילֵל being derived from יהל, to shed light. This is the lamentation over the heavenly prince of Babylon, who will fall from heaven.

You have been cut down to earth: You, Nebuchadnezzar, who would cast lots on nations. You would cast lots on them, on the kings, who of them would serve you on such and such a day, and who on such and such a day. Our Rabbis, however, expounded this to mean that he would cast lots on the kings for purposes of pederasty.”

So not only is the “fallen Lucifer” a serious misunderstanding of Isaiah, it is a complete rewrite of Judaism to support a Christian notion.  I sometimes think what that 12 year old scholar of Judaism would have thought of this great misuse of his faith, because Jesus was a Jew.  He prayed in Temple and celebrated Jewish Holidays, as the law prescribed.  I do not think he would take kindly to the twisting of his chosen faith.  The Christian interpretation “But Lucifer said within his heart “I will exalt my throne above the stars of God ” (Isaiah 14:13). The “stars of God” evidently refer to the angels in this passage, and Satan sought to usurp the command that God had over them.” Literally turns the planet Venus into a fallen angel and forces Isaiah’s words about Nebuchadnezzar to instead support their changes to the meaning of the passage.

Christians do not stop there though, they take that misinterpretation and poor translation about Venus as the morning star and then equate all passages in the Hebrew books of the Old Testament to now be making reference to this concept of morning stars being angels.  Those passages in Judaism are about stars.  There was a time in dark ages Christianity when people believed all stars were angels watching over the world, and angels could fall, just like meteors or “falling stars”.  To still carry this as a belief a full millennium later, without re-examining this concept, beleaguers comprehension.

Christians use 2 Corinthians11:14 “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” Taking the quote out of context from “13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” which clearly make this a reference to false prophets as compared to Satan (not Lucifer), so they misuse the text and redefine Lucifer as Satan.

Christians continue to plagiarize and re-interpret from the Hebrews with no concern for the traditional Hebrew understandings of their own books!  They use Psalms, Job and Genesis with little or no regard for what those stories mean to Jews like Jesus.  They use snippets from Hebrews 12:22, Revelation 12:3-9, Revelation 5:11, Genesis 15:5, Jeremiah 33:22, Job 38:7, Isaiah 14:13, Judges 5:20, Revelation 1:20, Psalm 104:4, 2Thessalonians 1:7-9, Ezekiel 28:14, Revelation 14:10, Psalm 106:35-38, 1Corinthians 10:19-20, like sections in a Madlib to support the idea of angles, angels as stars, and falling stars as falling angels.  How is it that they can then call this truth?  In so doing then ignore the true meanings and intents of the books they quote, for a pseudo meaning applied by theologians and dogma after the fact.

This is the rationale and reasoning behind the belief that the entire world is Lucifer’s sock puppet, except for them of course.  Of what purpose is discrimination if the discriminator is included in their own bigotry?  So of course they have it right and we are just sock puppets, unless we conform to their world view.

In writing this I came across the work of an artist named Bret Kirk.  The image on top is an example of his work, and is but one of many.  Lawyers, politicians, and basically anyone whose lifestyle choices do not meet with the judgements of these Christians is seen as simply a sock puppet of the Devil.  Something they feel that not only others are, but that they run a risk of becoming.  They fear being misused by the Devil and need Christ to protect them from this cosmic boogeyman they have no evidence of.

This entire belief is based upon the concept of Lucifer, Satan, or the Adversary.  A creature whose entire existence is devoted to lying to and manipulating humans to cause more suffering on earth, because he is angry with God and wants to usurp the position.  As I have shown the scriptural supports for this are very flimsy, but what better scapegoat for all the evil on Earth than a supernatural agency no one can prove?

It fails on philosophical grounds alone.  Since God is the Almighty and ever-present and all knowing, then God knows and watches everything this devil would be doing, as he was doing it.  God takes no action to stop the devil, and although Christians believe the devil will eventually be thrown into the lake of fire,  they seem to have no issue with God allowing this celestial agent of evil to torment his children throughout all of history.  Christians fail to grasp that if God has a plan, then the devil is in it by God’s choice.  To say otherwise is to belittle God in some fashion.

Very few Christians understand that the above descriptions of an eternal war for the souls of mankind between God and the Devil is an apt description of Zoroastrianism.  In that faith, which was common at the time of early Christianity, the “good” god, is universal and creator, and the “bad” god is chaos and destructive, and they are in an eternal war for mankind’s souls.  In fact the three “Magi” (or wise men who followed the star) were likely based upon Zoroastrian priests, because “Magi” is the term for them.  This is an easy illustration of how the one religion bled into the other.  For all intents and purposes it looks as though early Christians reinterpreted the stories in order to support the idea of this duality, while remaining Christians.

To embrace the notion of the devil, and demonic influences affecting everyone on earth is to literally demonize the entire planet.  It is not sound to think Lucifer caused all this and Jesus saves us from it, because that makes God a co-conspirator to the totality of human suffering. It forces your definition of God to be either malevolent or inept.  If God were both loving and competent, with ever presence and perfect mind and maximum power,  then removing the devil would be child’s play.  Since he is unable to do this inside the Christian faith without a specific set of circumstances taking place, the God of that understanding is limited by circumstance, and a limited God is not the definition most Christians work with.

I pity people trapped in these Dark Ages mindsets.  One where the world is populated by demonic forces which act like boogeymen puppeteers of humans.  One where demonic influences are the responsible party, not the actions of men or nature.  What a fearful way to live!

This to me is like people in real life fearing to look in a mirror and say “Bloody Mary” the required number of times.  Victims of a fear induced mental state; not from a horror film, but from their religion of love and peace.  To such folks we are all less than human, created as mere sock puppets for demonic forces.   Such Christians fail to see how this belittles all of humanity, or how it diminishes their own faith.  It allows the religion to turn them into Bigots and for them to think that is a good thing.

  1. I can’t quote from the Bible, but I’ve always felt that Jesus’ message was taken over by those who sought control over the masses.

      1. That’s what they tell us he said. It’s just a book. I have my own reasons for believing, but still trying to figure out how it came to be.

      2. Since the religion comes to any of us now through the book, how can you discount the book and have the faith? Would you not just be reasoning your very own faith then?
