Surviving Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) Day Thirty Eight

Surviving C-19 Day 38
May 8, 2020 7:45 AM
108 Days since first US infection

Global Infected                 3,772,367                        3,864,696
Increase Infected            91,991                              92,329

Global Dead                       264,189                 270,020
Increase Dead                   6,371                                5,861

US Infected                        1,228,609                        1,256,972
Increase Infected            24,134                              28,363

US Dead                             73,431                               75,670
Increase Dead                   2,353                                 2,239

While I slept 5,861 more of my fellow humans died, of those 2,239 were mt fellow Americans. Another dose of daily tragedy, cheer up, you adjust and grow used to it right Mr. President? Like that judge in Nebraska said the other day about people working in the meat packing plants, “Well it’s those meat packing people, not regular people’, as if a virus prefers meat packers. Nope it’s because the judge is whiter than I am, older than I am, and stuffed full of subtle (not so fucking subtle) racisim/classisim blended into an US and THEM scenario where the people who grow and process your food are not quite humans, because they are brown, or black, or poor, or native, or, or, or IE Not ‘WASPY’.

Let’s check those canaries . . .

In Montana, #43 most populous, 456 of 1,068,778 confirmed infected, an increase of 0 cases

In Alaska, #48 most populous, 374 of 731,545 confirmed infected, an increase of 1 cases

In South Dakota, #46 most populous, 2906 of 884,659 confirmed infected, an increase of 126 cases

In Minnesota, #22 most populous, 9,365 of 5,639,632 confirmed infected, an increase of 786 cases

In Oklahoma, #28 most populous, 4,330 of 3,956,971 confirmed infected, an increase of 128 cases

In Tennessee, #16 most populous, 14,096 of 6,829,174 confirmed infected an increase of 158 cases

In Mississippi, #34 most populous, 8,686 of 2,976,149 confirmed infected an increase of 262 cases

In Georgia, #8 most populous, 31,603 of 10,617,423 confirmed infected, an increase of 857 cases

In South Carolina, #23 most populous, 7,142 of 5,148,714 confirmed infected, an infected increase of 206 cases

In Texas, #2 most populous, 36,047 of 28,995,881 confirmed infected, an increase of 1,119

Everything but Montana is up, much of it significantly, TX is adding more than 1000 cases a day.  It is a long way till the end of the month that would double TX total cases pushing it into NY numbers.

Note : This headline “Sperm containing virus raises small risk of COVID-19 spread via sex” come from a Chinese research team which tested the sperm of men positive with C-19 and found C-19 in the sperm.  This is troublesome, it does not make it easily transmissible via sex as it prefers the lungs, but we cannot rule that out now.  Also we have to fear that since it went all through the system and into sperm, it might mutate and become a sexually transmitted disease.  This is something we need to research.

So I keep hearing similar things from various talking heads (pundits) when talking about ‘How do we re-open; what will the new normal look like?”  Despite the differences in both ideologies and outlooks; one side of which is focused on reopening and ‘getting the country back’ and re-election and the other which is focused on the medicine and the next election; they both underestimate time by a large factor.  Both sides will use terms like 12-18 months for the vaccine, which they have already been using for 5 months.  Or how long do they think it will take for everyone to be back at work and things to return to a new normal, 1 year, three before all is said and done?

All these terms are overly optimistic.  The fastest vaccine ever developed was mumps and that was in four years.  You know what?  Mumps is still around, so is flu, so is polio.  Our vaccination campaign gives antibodies to every vaccine recipient, thus it is like we all have had it.  However there are some among us who find it easier to believe disease is a Corporate Conspiracy then to grasp that diseases kill us every day in other places.  Here in our rich fat nation we have the luxury of everyone being vaccinated, and hence the US having herd immunity, well had herd immunity.  Anti-vaxxers already killed that.

We will be in this for years, for the foreseeable future, for the rest of my life.  How we deal with an anti-vaccination movement in a pandemic is an issue though.  Already some member made some BS video I have not seen, which was yanked from FB (which I do not do) and YouTube where I never saw it, I don’t watch viral videos.

Undoubtedly it is some conspiracy that the bug was made in order to force us into, lemme guess, big brother rfid tracking via vaccinations?  Some historian can look and see how close I was, I do not care.  Anti-Vaxxers have faith in their own bias without proper evidence, they need a bogeyman to blame for the state of the world and lack the self-understanding to realize we all have one already, we call it a mirror.

States by Population

42. Maine                                            1,335,907
42 a. Covid -19 Cases                         1,256,972
Tomorrow or the next day C-19 cases in the USA will exceed my States total population. Opening up is going for herd immunity the hard way, before we have a vaccine. The Trump admin seems to think if they open up the virus might increase but not beyond what they can manipulate in the press, then that is an acceptable loss.

Acceptable loss is a term I recall, its a battlefield term used when describing how many grunts will die to achieve goal A. We can ‘afford’ to lose X number of grunts, that is an acceptable loss. Hence, the worker class (mpost Americans), or as Marx termed them ‘the proletariot’, or as I put it ‘the common man’ a term our founder prefered; the people who work, doing everything, most especially the things others would not be caught dead doing, they do that because guess what, they need to eat too.

Herd immunity is 70% of the nations population. Herd immunity is 70% of 328 million. Herd immunity is 229,600,000 Americans infected, we have 1,256,972 already infected, only another 228 million more or so to go. It already has exceeded these States populations.

43. Rhode Island                               1,059,639
44. Montana                                      1,050,493
45. Delaware                                     961,939
46. South Dakota                              869,666
47. North Dakota                             755,393
48. Alaska                                          739,795
49. District of Columbia                  693,972
50. Vermont                                       623,657
51. Wyoming                                     579,315

How long until the deaths start matching state populations?

Maine infected                 1,330                                     1,374
Increase Infected            76                                           44

Maine Dead                       62                                           63
Increase Dead                   1                                              1

Whilst I worked on this and frittered the day away awaiting the May Snowstorm we have on the way (gotta love climate change eh?)
Another Mainer lost their fight and 44 more were drafted.
