So I took my day off and have continued strict diet, on the clock el blando forever, and I am feeling a little better.  No chest pain at any rate, not playing ‘is it UC chest pain or a heart attack’, w3hich is decidedly more pleasant. While I did that 2,745 people died of C-19, and 246 of those were American.  One might look at these numbers and see hope, I see expected peaks and valleys on the long road to herd immunity either by infection or vaccination.  I also see the same odd or under reporting on the weekend.

“I’ve got my clipboard, text books
Lead me to the station
Yeah, I’m off to the civil war
I’ve got my kit bag, my heavy boots
I’m runnin’ in the rain
Gonna run till my feet are raw

Slip kid, slip kid, second generation
And I’m a soldier at thirteen
Slip kid, slip kid, realization
There’s no easy way to be free
No easy way to be free

It’s a hard, hard world

I left my doctor’s prescription bungalow behind me
I left the door ajar
I left my vacuum flask
Full of hot tea and sugar
Left the keys right in my car

Slip kid, slip kid, second generation
Only half way up the tree
Slip kid, slip kid, I’m a relation
I’m a soldier at sixty-three
No easy way to be free

It’s a hard, hard world”–The Who

I feel obligated to touch upon a secondary, historic moment taking place in this pandemic.  I am of course referring to the current protest around systemic racism, which were way overdue in my opinion, and very ill timed as well.  While necessary and just, they will likely be super spreader events of a bug which disproportionately affects blacks and all the poor as well.

In the endless spin of media, and the White house, I have heard ANTIFA mentioned repeatedly, even going so far as to claim they would declare them terrorists for their actions.  Yet I see no mention at all of the ‘Boogaloo Bois’, some of whom were arrested in these very protests.  They were not arrested for protesting, or marching, but for manufacturing Molotov cocktails for use on the police.  This is not, as Trump so oft claims, the radical left, but rather this is his base, the far right.

“Group linked to far-right “boogaloo” movement plotted terror attacks against protesters: prosecutors”

Three white men with ties to a right-wing extremist movement plotted terrorist attacks against protesters in Las Vegas, federal prosecutors said in a criminal complaint.  Prosecutors said three men with military experience and ties to the far-right “boogaloo” movement, which aims at inciting a second
American Civil War, plotted attacks against individuals protesting the death of George Floyd and coronavirus restrictions.

Stephen Parshall, 35, Andrew Lynam Jr., 23, and William Loomis, 40, were arrested Saturday en route to a protest over Floyd’s death. Police allegedly found the group filling gas canisters and making Molotov cocktails in a parking lot in downtown Las Vegas. Federal prosecutors charged each of the men with conspiracy to damage and destroy by fire and explosive and possession of unregistered firearms. They were separately charged with terrorism, conspiracy and explosives possession in state court, according to the Associated Press. “People have a right to peacefully protest. These men are agitators and instigators. Their point was to hijack the protests into violence,” Nicholas Trutanich, the U.S. attorney in Nevada.

Lynam, an Army reservist, Parshall, who was enlisted in the Navy, and Loomis, who was enlisted in the Air Force, were part of the “boogaloo” movement, which prosecutors described as a “term used by extremists to signify coming Civil War and/or fall of civilization,” the complaint said. “This type of planning and intent on causing mayhem is terroristic and will not be tolerated,” Las Vegas District Attorney Steve Wolfson told the AP.”

“The Boogaloo Bois and others are attempting to start a second civil war, egging on violence and vandalizing stores while others protest the police and their actions, according to reports.”

The so-called Boogaloo Bois, a group of armed anti-government extremists, have reportedly shown up to protests. The term “Boogaloo” is a term used for an impending civil war or violent confrontation with law enforcement — the goal of these organizations. The group has apathy toward law enforcement and are trying to position themselves within the protests against police brutality. The group’s approach to police brutality links the victims of the deadly standoff with federal agents at Ruby Ridge in 1992 to modern police shootings and other acts of violence against unarmed black men such as Micheal Brown and Ahmaud Arbery.

However, the group refuses to acknowledge police brutality is an issue that disproportionately impacts people of color.

“Far Right Extremists Hope to Incite New Civil War Amid Political Chaos of COVID”

“In what could be construed as an act of treason, President Trump recently ordered such paramilitary groups and right-wing thugs to take up arms and to threaten Democratic-led state governments such as Michigan’s in order to force them to “reopen” their state. Such behavior is part of a broader pattern of right-wing terrorism and violence in the United States where armed militias and paramilitaries have allied with the Republican Party in its effort to delegitimize and undermine democracy. Such an alliance is common to failing democracies and rising fascist movements. The example offered by the Nazi Party and Adolf Hitler in the 1930s is perhaps the most ominous.

Right-wing terrorism is and will be a future template for Trump and his movement against their perceived or real enemies. White neo-fascist violence, and the threat of such violence have consistently escalated during the Age of Trump. So much for those resilient checks and balances I lauded to my Colorado neighbor.

Back then, in the bygone era, he wrote to me: “No wonder Republicans are laughing at us. The billionaire politicians have complete control (besides the military at this point), no oversight, and most of their constituents are armed, some heavily, and ready to defend them. Roll over and die? What the hell? Time to even things up. To save this country. Hopefully, guns will always be a deterrent, but they may be our last hope to save this country. Time to gun up, liberals!”

If you prefer, think of “gun up” as get real, get tough, get registered, get mobilized, get implacable and vote Trump out. Or you may just want to go down to the range. Ultimately, the upcoming presidential election in November will be a test of the United States’ ability to have a peaceful transfer of power — assuming the election take place, and assuming Trump is somehow defeated, an outcome that seems increasingly unlikely. From Truthout, Salon, & blackenterprise, yeah, I really had to go hunt for that data, none of the Legacy Main Press has bothered to cover it.
