America is Spun.

Spun is a term from the drug world, wherein a person has used so much meth that their view of reality is skewed; that is spun.  “Spun: A state of mind that exists because of using an amphetamine for a prolonged amount of time through repeated ingestion. The chemical affect has reached a saturation point where reality is distorted. Mental focus and direction cannot be achieved until detoxification.”

I think America is Spun, but by media, Social and Legacy combined.  Hence I created a new usage for the term Spun.

Spun (by media): A state of mind that exists because social media and mainstream media all ‘spinning’ for their own political or personal agendas. The misinformation/disinformation effect has reached a saturation point in the overall population where reality is distorted; a form of large scale, even Global gas lighting. Unified mental focus on serious issues cannot be achieved until detoxification.

“Spin is a pejorative term often used in the context of public relations practitioners and political communicators. It is used to refer to the sophisticated selling of a specific message that is heavily biased in favor of one’s own position and that employs maximum management of the media with the intention of maintaining or exerting control over the situation, often implying deception or manipulation.”-Brittanica

America is Spun.

Last night I watched the Tulsa rally in part.  I did not tune in to the POTUS’s entire speech, but rather bounced back and forth between CNN, MSNBC and FOX, to watch the goddamn spin as the event began.  CNN, FOX, and MSNBC as well as others covered the event hours before it began.

On FOX the camera angles and chosen shots all showed a large crowd enthusiastic for the POTUS.

On CNN the shots were pulled back and using a wider angle, showing the crowd and the empty second tier.

On MSNBC the focus was on the protests outside and the ever repeated mantra of a lower turnout than expected.

On Fox you heard the POTUS endlessly complaining about how unfair life, politics and America has been to the whiner in chief, with which the crowd agreed and cheered it’s support of Trump.

On CNN the over talk by pundits was about C-19 and the potential of this event causing a severe bloom, a super spreader event.  They focused on the lack of masks and how dangerous holding such an event was; against the advice of the very Corona Panel the POTUS empowered; against the cautions of the CDC; to the detriment of all Americans, all just for Trumps base to ‘feel good’ about themselves?

On MSNBC the over talk was about race and C-19, but race dominated in my time watching.  They pointed out all the horrid racist buttons pushed by this rally, the filmed the BLM protest outside, and they talked about how protesters wore masks but attendees did not.

All of these are true in part and false in part, all of these are chock full of political spin, and while the POTUS and his base rail about fake news they create more of it themselves than all the others.  Most of the worst is done via the lie of omission.  Is there a pandemic, don’t talk about it, omit it.  Is there an employment crisis, don’t talk about it, omit it.  Are there more corrupt actions by the administration, don’t talk about it, omit it.

On the inverse of that it is all about focus.  Repeat forever the problems you see, like lack of masks, but ignore that this rally is also a first amendment right.

It is however an Idiotic time to utilize it and it was done in a fashion which endangers the nation, not just rally goers or Oklahomans.  It makes the rally itself a national security issue created by the damn POTUS! The anti-science bias in these rallies is disturbing with many attendees holding a magical notion they won’t get the virus, and others sure they would kick its ass and unconcerned about others they might infect.  If you have a bias you won’t ’get it, infecting others is not something you consider at all.

Overall it leaves all of us Spun: A state of mind that exists because of social media and mainstream media all ‘spinning’ for their own political or personal agendas. The misinformation effect has reached a saturation point where reality is distorted; a form of large scale gas lighting. Mental focus and direction cannot be achieved until detoxification; which can only be achieved by avoiding media and social media; and only using any media in a comparative form inclusive enough that a person sees the spin being ladled onto them.

Realizing we have been Spun is to grasp we are all being propagandized, by both parties, through media and social media.  Propaganda is information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.  Realizing we are being manipulated is the first step, to combat it first tune out of social media (I dropped mine in 2016 when I saw how it was being abused).  Social media is uncontrolled, not vetted, and a prime target of all propaganda.  In short it is Social media combined with the spin of Legacy media which is making many of us Spun.

Secondarily but in the same vein is all traditional Legacy Media, with scant exceptions for AP and Reuters who still just collect news.  As a result of Political spin and the endless lies of omission by all mainstream networks, we are all in bubbles.  Brand Loyalty applies to a lot more than your preferred shoes or automobiles, it is also true of your chosen news outlets.  If you do not take the time to see how several media outlets are presenting the data then you will always be Spun.  Each network is omitting anything not in line with their agenda, not every time on every show, but persistently over the entire spectrum of programming.

Take the recent protests, on Fox it was all fire and broken glass for days, when those events took place mostly on one day and on a second night in a few places.  To watch that on FOX you get the impression ,by omitting the peaceful protests and only showing the fires, that all of America is burning down right now and therefore whatever acts the police undertook were necessary and justified.

On MSNBC the focus was on the protests, you saw scant fire images and those came with a clarifier that these were not started by the protesters but by local criminals taking advantage of the civil unrest, police reports back that up.  Here you saw tear gas and rubber bullets on peaceful protesters, creating the impression it was Kent State, nationwide, all over again.  Culpability of looters was downplayed.

On CNN they focused much more on C-19 during the protests, on the dangers of rallies of any type and of the protests in particular.  Here you saw repeated video of the clearing of Lafayette Park with pepper spray and flash bangs used on peaceful protesters.  You saw the POTUS awkwardly holding up a Bible in front of a Church he does not attend, after clearing the park of peaceful protesters by force.  Here you heard lots of commentary about misuse of the military.  Culpability of looters was downplayed.

So the same events look very different if you, like 85% of all consumers, show brand loyalty.  If you like CNN, or FOX, or MSBNC, or any network and you get all or most of your news from that one source, you are Spun to some extent.  Your network is omitting things you deserve to know, that you need to know for your family’s well-being and to exercise your vote with integrity.

The Goebbels’ nightmare reality is worse though, and it too is upon us.  Sinclair media has bought up local networks nationwide and on those practice the very same spinning on all of us at the local level and every bit of it is pro Trump. Trumpian, Christian Conservative and extremist Christian politics spoon fed to us all.  So if your one of the majority who stick to your local news, you too are likely being Spun by omission and directly Spun by Sinclair’s misinformation/disinformation and active spin.

Then there is the frosting of this shit cake we are all stuffing ourselves on; Voice of America. “Voice of America (VOA) is a U.S. multimedia agency which serves as the United States government institution for non-military, external broadcasting. It is the largest U.S. international broadcaster. VOA produces digital, TV, and radio content in 47 languages which it distributes to affiliate stations around the globe. It is primarily viewed by foreign audiences, so VOA programming has an influence on public opinion abroad regarding the United States and its people. VOA was established in 1942, and the VOA charter (Public Laws 94-350 and 103-415) was signed into law in 1976 by President Gerald Ford.

VOA is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and overseen by the U.S. Agency for Global Media, an independent agency of the U.S. government. Funds are appropriated annually by Congress under the budget for embassies and consulates. In 2016, VOA broadcast an estimated 1,800 hours of radio and TV programming each week to approximately 236.6 million people worldwide with about 1,050 employees and a taxpayer-funded annual budget of US$218.5 million”—WIKI

Donald Trump just installed Michael Pack, a conservative filmmaker and supporter of the president as head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM).  His first act was to fire all the heads of the various branches of VOA, of which there are several.  Now Mr. Pack is set to take over all control of content on VOA, turning VOA into a new arm of the Trump propaganda machine.

“Michael Pack founded Manifold Productions, Inc., an independent film production company, in 1977. Through Manifold Productions, Pack has written, directed and produced 13 documentary films on a range of topics.”—WIKI

“A conservative filmmaker who recently took over a United States global media agency removed the chiefs of four news organizations under its purview on Wednesday night, according to people with knowledge of the decision, in an action that raises questions about their editorial independence. The filmmaker, Michael Pack, also dismissed the head of a technology group and disbanded the bipartisan board that helps oversee and advise those five organizations. He replaced its members largely with Trump administration political appointees, including himself as chairman. One board member works for a conservative advocacy organization, Liberty Counsel Action.”-NBC

Now there is the problem with this.  VOA has been apolitical since its founding.  Its mission has been to champion free speech and democratic ideals globally since WW2.  It broadcast across the Iron Curtin throughout the cold war, it broadcast in the Middle East throughout revolutions, it broadcast to the Viet-Cong during the Nam. Now the new agenda is to be reset by Pack using ‘Liberty Counsel Action’ personnel?  That is distinctly partisan, and in this environ likely to be another arm of Trump propaganda.

Here is one point from ‘Liberty Counsel Action’ own front page . . .
“URGENT: “Equality Act” Comes to the Senate Yesterday, Senators tried to pass the “Equality Act,” which would unleash a horrific attack on religious organizations, churches, and every person.”

“The Equality Act is a bill in the United States Congress, that, if passed, would amend the Civil Rights Act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing, public accommodations, public education, federal funding, credit, and the jury system. As of 2020, 29 states have not outlawed anti-LGBT discrimination, with members of the LGBT community being given very little protection at a national level and two-thirds of LGBT Americans in the United States reporting facing or having experienced discrimination in their personal lives. The Equality Act seeks to remedy this lack of protection, applying existing state anti-LGBT discrimination laws nationwide.”

So Anti-LGBTQ . . . in exremis

  1. Liberty Counsel Chairman Mat Staver says LGBTQ young people have “confusion” because of “the likes of a Jerry Sandusky abuser,” so they need to be cured by dangerous attempts to change their sexual orientation – a practice that has been condemned by every major medical and mental health organization in the country.
  2.  Liberty Counsel actively and aggressively defended exporter of hate Scott Lively in U.S. District Court when he was defending himself against charges of “crimes against humanity” for his involvement pushing Uganda’s odious anti-LGBTQ law, which promises life in prison for Ugandans convicted of being gay. Lively told Ugandans that “predatory gays” are “looking for other people to be able to prey upon” and bragged that “our campaign was like a nuclear bomb against the ‘gay’ agenda in Uganda.” Liberty Counsel called the suit an attempt by the “intolerant homosexual lobby” to “intimidate” people from going overseas. Ths
  3. Liberty Counsel supports and defends archaic laws criminalizing homosexuality with harsh punishments around the world, and has condemned President Obama and the U.S. government for speaking out against such laws, saying, “America should not be trying to make that country act in an immoral way.”
  4. Liberty Counsel says that judges and magistrates in marriage equality states who go rogue and refuse to marry same-sex couples are basically like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Rosa Parks. Telling two people in love they can’t get married = advancing core civil rights like voting protections and equal treatment under the law.
  5. Even better — Liberty Counsel compared marriage equality to slavery and forced sterilization. Enter Mat Staver: “It’s shameful for the Supreme Court for what they have done to marriage as it has been shameful in the history of the court with regards to the Dred Scott decision or the Buck v. Bell decision, where they said that the state of Virginia can forcibly sterilize her because of this eugenics idea that they want to eliminate the undesirables of the world. That was the shameful day that we ultimately look back with shame upon and I think this is going to be one of those same kind of situations.”
  6. Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber attacked U.S. Sen. Rob Portman’s son for living an “abhorrent lifestyle” (being gay). Liberty Counsel’s Mat Saver referred to Portman as being one of “the cockroaches within the Republican Party” for standing with his son and supporting marriage equality.
  7. Liberty Counsel thinks being LGBTQ is not only a health hazard, but is also just like being a drug addict, which justifies legal discrimination. They actually said, “Both are about protecting children and society. Laws that single out those who want to engage in a harmful behavior, like drug laws that discriminate against heroin users, are not unlawful discrimination but rather compassionate public policy.”
  8. Liberty Counsel advocated on behalf of a woman named Lisa Miller who claims to have “renounced homosexuality” thanks to her religion, and then kidnapped and fled the country with her child in order to avoid allowing her same-sex former partner – the child’s other parent – from seeing her. She fled after she was found in contempt of court for denying a Vermont court order that she grant the child’s other mother visitation. Coincidentally, it was reported in 2011 that Miller and her child were living in Nicaragua in a home owned by Mat Staver’s administrative assistant’s father.

So all those bullet points are from the ‘Human Rights Campaign’, and each point has a dozen or so lawsuits which that org filed on each bullet point, all against the LGBTQ community.  This is a religious view that discrimination is a religious right. That is our new ‘Voice of America’ one of religious intolerance and bigotry.  Apparently they think we are not Spun enough, and want to force extremist Christian rhetoric down the throats of planet Earth; America First.

So please, for your own good, take precautions against being played by all these actors.  Dump social media outside your real life friends and family, and stop using it.  Adjust your own viewing so you won’t be left in a fog of spin so long you become Spun.  Comparatively view, compare and contrast and don’t assume your favorite is honest and the other guy a lying bastard, they are all spinning, and we Americans don’t need to be Spun, most especially in a crisis.

OK, so I did a bit of S.O.T. writing this morning giving my impressions of the Tulsa rally and how it was covered. Later on I began to grab the headlines, and these represent one surrounding the Tulsa rally.

Trump again blames China for COVID-19, terms it ‘Kung flu’; and Trump shows he still does not understand virus, does not care that term is racist, and seeks to blame others for his failed response here.  A pandemic is global, blaming another nation, even the one that saw it first and recognized it was something new, because they did not recognize it or inform others fast enough to suit you is deflecting your own ineptitude with coffins.

Then there is Trump’s Idea of the 1st Amendment.  He gets his knickers all in a twist if anyone says anything less than flattery about him, and labels such people ‘Enemies of the State’, ‘Fake news’, ‘Instigators’, ‘Agitators’, Looters, ‘Thugs’, and ‘Lowlifes.

1st Amendment –As Trump sees it . . .

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion . . .This is sacrosanct for Evangelical Christianity but not for other faiths. Trump tried to ban Muslims remember?

or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . .This is used to justify discrimination against LGBTQ, for whom the court just ruled and Trump responded to that by Making Pack run the V.O.A., making the USA’s voice anti-LGBTQ.

or abridging the freedom of speech . . . Trump sees all his Tweets and FB posts as his free speech and gets very upset when people call out his freely spoken lies. However he instantly blocks anyone on twitter or FB who does not blow smoke up his ass, ask Steven King.

or of the press– Trump does not believe in freedom of the Press, he calls them “Enemies of the State”, a term coined by Stalin as “Enemies of the People’.

“An enemy of the state is a person accused of certain crimes against the state, such as treason. Describing individuals in this way is sometimes a manifestation of political repression. For example, an authoritarian regime may purport to maintain national security by describing social or political dissidents as “enemies of the state.”–WIKI

or the right of the people peaceably to assemble–Trump cleared peaceful protesters from Lafayette park with Pepper bullets and Flash bang grenades, and a shield wall, and a cavalry rush; then before Tulsa’s rally, promised an even harsher response to protesters in Tulsa.

and to petition the government for a redress of grievances–Only Trump can petition for grievance as everyone is against him in his mind.  Any citizen doing so is trying to make Trump look bad and is therefore a liar.

Trump 1st amendment headlines

“Trump Says Burning the Flag Should Get One Year in Jail”–That is ‘abridging the freedom of speech’

“Facebook, Twitter remove Trump’s manipulated ‘toddler besties’ video after parent complains”–FB is a social media platform, not anyone’s free speech.  Anyone on it agrees to certain terms, and Trump has gotten a big pass on those for a long while.  You or I would have long ago been banned for his tweets or FB posts.

“U.S. judge declines to block release of book by former national security adviser John Bolton”–John Bolton’s free speech is a book, which Trump has tried over and over again to block via suits.

Berman is a GOP prosecutor assigned to the southern district of NY by Donald Trump.  In this job he is investigating Rudy Giuliani and his associates from Ukraine who made illegal campaign contributions to Donald Trump’s campaign.  Trump wants that to stop.  There are also several other cases about the Trump foundation and Trump enterprises that he wants the SD to drop.

SO . . .

Barr announced Berman’s retirement, but never asked Berman, and Berman refused saying he is not retiring.

Then Barr said ‘Trump ordered the firing’

Then . . .

“US attorney behind inquiries into Trump allies refuses to resign despite Barr announcement”

Then . . .

“Trump on firing of Geoffrey Berman: ‘I’m not involved'”

Then . . .

“Barr says at his request, Trump has removed Geoffrey Berman as U.S. attorney in Manhattan”

The administration has been full of this type of BS since its outset.  This is the start of the spin, then media hypes whatever angle they see fit, and regurgitates it onto all of us, who they believe based on our bias and share the BS via Social media.

“Give me my freedom for as long as I be
All I ask of living is to have no chains on me
All I ask of living is to have no chains on me”—Blood Sweat and Tears 1969

While I worked on this in isolation more Americans were infected with C-19 than attended Trump’s Rally, 4,040 Americans died while he labeled it the “Kung Flu”.  Why do Americans tolerate our own POTUS making light of our own dead?
