Point of Interest: Coronavirus: Obesity increases risks from Covid-19, experts say

“Being obese or overweight puts you at greater risk of serious illness or death from Covid-19, experts say after examining existing studies. The review of evidence by Public Health England found excess weight put people at greater risk of needing hospital admission or intensive care. And the risk grew substantially as weight increased.”–BBC

Point of Interest: “More than a third of coronavirus patients feel symptoms for weeks, CDC says”
“The CDC surveyed 292 people who tested positive for the virus, and 35% said they still weren’t back to their usual good health even two or three weeks after testing positive. While older people were more likely to feel prolonged symptoms, even young adults without underlying conditions reported feeling unwell for a long period of time, the CDC said. The new understanding into how the virus affects patients comes as more than 4.1 million cases of coronavirus cases and more than 145,700 deaths have been reported in the US, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.”–CNN

Point of Interest: “Sinclair delays interview containing Fauci Covid-19 conspiracy theory”–The Guardian
“Sinclair Television said on Saturday it would delay airing an interview with a conspiracy theorist who claims baselessly that Dr Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease expert, created the coronavirus behind the current pandemic. “Dr Judy Mikovits, a former research scientist, is behind the widely discredited Plandemic video, which makes a string of false and outlandish claims including that any coronavirus vaccine will kill millions and that beaches should not be closed because the sand and ocean will somehow treat Covid-19.

Fauci is the 79-year-old director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He has served six presidents, but Donald Trump has sought to keep him off television, called him “alarmist” and frequently undermined his work. “This sort of contagious disease that’s invisible makes people extremely apprehensive,” he said, adding that the coronavirus pandemic is “a profoundly displacing event and the uncertainty and anxiety it has generated in health, the economy and politics are just really deep. “Some people are primed to seek out some sort of simple answer to very complex political and health issues and into that void conspiracy theories rush right in.”

Sinclair offers a considerable platform, through TV stations across the US.

The company’s links to the Trump administration have come under scrutiny, for example when in 2018 local news anchors were instructed to read an identical script criticizing “fake” news stories. Its chairman, David D Smith, has said that in 2016 he told Trump: “We are here to deliver your message.””–CNN

We are drowning in all this.  It is simply too much for people to take in, as a result people will shut down psychologically.  Withdraw and for many that response will be to go to ground, put head in sand and pretend it’s not really happening.

It is a dis-service to the citizenry to have this much data, all competing for mental space, each vying to be the most important.  Some people believe that is intentional by Trump, to drive down the vote, corner his base in abject fear response, all in order to retain the office.

As of July 15, about 42 out of 100,000 Americans died of COVID-19. (Another way to put: 1 out of every 2,404 people.)
