A June that will live in Infamy

Thoughts and Prayers are not Enough

June rushed in on a river of innocent blood.  A mix of children’s and innocent shoppers blood ushered in a new horror for the GOP to ignore.  For the life of me, I do not understand why parents are sending their kids to school anymore, it has become a potential combat zone, with little or no defense.

The police made bad into worse by holding back and not forcing entry.  That is the first thing you are taught with an active shooter, if you breach, the shooter focuses on you, and not innocent children.  It was a SNAFU of epic proportions created by the lead officer, who assumed the shooter was no longer active, and in making an ass of himself and his unit, cost the lives of 19 innocent children, and two brave teachers who stayed with their class.

The Pandemic is not over

“The Pandemic is not over as Ba2 variants circulate, although are numbers are beginning to fall here in Maine. We have been in a long uptick for the Ba2 and its progeny.  Now here comes Monkeypox.  Monkeypox is not as contagious as Covid by a long shot, at least that is historical Monkeypox.  In previous outbreaks, which were easily contained in Africa in the past, direct contact with the infected was necessary for transmission.  The pustules pop and ooze, and that is infectious as hell.

Monkeypox is not airborne making it much less contagious than Covid, but there is a large snag in that assertion.; Monkeypox has, in the past, been localized infections in a village or town.; Spotted, identified, and quarantined effectively; This outbreak is not like the previous ones; It is cropping up in nation after nation and we do not know why, yet.

Preliminary testing hints at a new vector of transmission for Monkeypox. Sex; This new variant of Monkeypox may well be a new STD.; We will have to wait and see.

“COVID is not a “one and done” thing—far from it.

Those who are unvaccinated and don’t mask can expect to come down with COVID once a year or so—once every other year for the unvaccinated who regularly use a “good quality” mask in public, according to modeling by drug developer Fractal Therapeutics.

As for the vaccinated, both masked and unmasked, they can expect to get COVID “a lot less frequently,” though it’s impossible to say just how often, said Arijit Chakravarty, a COVID researcher and Fractal Therapeutics CEO.

“The bottom line is if you are planning not to use a mask and live your life as usual, expect to get infected at least once a year, if not more,” he said. “If you’re planning to mask everywhere but at home, that probably cuts the risk in half.”

The team’s latest models accounts for waning immunity from vaccines and prior infection, and a certain degree of immune evasion, as has been increasingly seen in Omicron subvariants. It also assumes that with each round of infection, a person gains some measure of protection against the sometimes-deadly virus, albeit temporary.

It does not account for the possible evolution of a variant that completely evades immunity, he cautioned.

The modeling focuses on the unvaccinated because “vaccines are not currently providing protection against infection” for the majority of the U.S. population, though they are providing protection against severe illness and death, Chakravarty said.”—AP

SURPRISE!

Not, I caught Covid 19

This is why I am doing my post now.  I have no clue where it came from, or how I got it, that is the nature of an asymptomatic spreader.  I am vaccinated and boosted (3 shots), but due for another booster which I was going to schedule tomorrow.  Now I have to go in for a PCR, I was positive on the at home test.

I suspected I might have caught it because my nose was causing post nasal drip, but that could be seasonal allergies too.  After a while I felt cold, chilly.  Then I felt it in my bones as I began to shiver, despite having the heat on and adding layers.  At that juncture I pretty much knew but I told my son and our whole household tested.  Macy and I came back positive, but I am sure Shane has it too, it is just not showing on the at home due to lesser efficacy.

In the morning I will go and get a PCR test, I expect it to be positive.  I expect, despite vaccination, that I may be one of those breakthroughs which require hospitalization.  I will not go on a vent as I have almost no chance of coming off one alive with my issues.

So, wish me luck.  Ironic to end the history and contract C-19, but I wondered if that would be the case because America is pretending the virus is gone.  There are no more mask mandates, no distancing, and no wide net of testing to see where it is.  Right now, the levels of covid infection are 8 times what they were last June; think about that.

The Long Covid

“COVID-19 infections have often been linked to certain neurological symptoms, such as problems with memory, concentration, and headaches. In a recent study, researchers say the formation of amyloids in the brain could be to blame.

Amyloids are abnormal proteins found in the body that experts have long linked to the development of Alzheimer’s disease. However, the research team says their findings show that they could also be formed during a COVID-19 infection. Infectious disease expert Dr. Arturo Casadevall said the study may provide another clue about how the virus affects our bodies.

“This is a very interesting study showing that the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein has domains that could promote aggregation to form amyloid fibrils. Such fibrils have been associated with cellular dysfunction, and if this happened during COVID-19, it would suggest yet another mechanism by which the virus can damage organs,” he said.”—US News

Prepare for food shortages and price increases

“As we opened up the May 12 issue of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (USDA-WASDE), we expected to see higher crop prices for the coming 2022 crop marketing year.

What we did not anticipate was a wheat price ($10.75 per bushel) more than double the season average price for the 2020 wheat crop ($5.05) and a far cry from the $3.89 we saw as recently as the 2016 crop marketing year.

The projected price of wheat for the 2022 crop year is 2.13 times the expected price received by farmers for the 2020 wheat crop. By way of contrast, while it is nothing to sneeze at, the projected 2022 corn price of $6.75 per bushel is 1.49 times the 2020 price. The comparable ratio for soybeans was 1.33 while it was 1.24 for rice.”—WSJ

Christian Nationalism is so prevalent it is on The View

“It’s part of the Christian nationalism, this rise in violent Christian nationalism, that we have seen, which is also disturbing. They use biblical principles, they pervert them to justify this,” Setmayer said.

“Particularly in Texas, this is a growing movement,” she continued. “It’s God, guns and Trump. Or God, guns and whatever. It’s a part of their ethos.”

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg added on to Setmayer’s point, appearing to blame Christians for slavery and racism.

“It’s always been this. This was the way it was down south. They used to use the Bible and say you’re not people, God doesn’t see you as people, so we don’t see you as people,” Goldberg said.

All the conditions are there: war in the biggest wheat-producing region in the world, global supply chain as a consequence of the global Covid-19 pandemic, and climate change having a negative in the harvests. The experts warn us that it is highly likely that a worldwide food crisis is on its way.

“Patriots for America patrols the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas, stops migrants, and questions children. They call it faith-based ministry work; civil rights groups say they’re just another racist group of extremists.”–La times

Don’t forget! The first digital war is still grinding on, with ever mounting casualties on both sides.

So, wish me luck I may well need it.

When I last got ill was 2019.  I caught the RS virus, a common virus we oft call a cold.  RS is epidemic every fall and winter.  Rs virus landed me in the cardiac unit for three days.

Covid is a lot more serious of a virus than RS virus. Still, our preventive measures allowed us all to avoid Covid for nearly three years. We are all vaccinated, and that is the best we can do now. Vaccinate, mask in public, forego mass events, and keep your distance as much as you can in public.

That is the new normal. A virus does not care about your ideas of liberty, it does not care about your political views, and it does not care if you worship Jesus, Krishna, Satan, or no one at all. A virus is a life form struggling to survive, like every other life form that exists.

A virus is Motely Crue, and you are the fucking hotel room.

Hopefully I will report back in soon.
